adult romance books to read for people who don’t usually read adult romance (and people who do!)

so you don’t read adult romance, do you? are you looking to dip your toe into the genre? if that’s the case, then you have come to the right place! today i’m here to share all the books that, in my opinion, can be a good start for you in the field!

of course, even if you are a romance expert, i still recommend these books! there are all amazing and i had a blast reading them. so, without further ado, here are adult romance books to read if you don’t usually read adult romance:

• Get a Life, Chloe Brown (The Brown Sisters #1), by talia hibbert: this book is an absolute delight. i have been obsessed with it since i have read it (which is not too long ago). in order to “get a life”, chloe brown makes a list of all the things she wants to do. she then seeks help from redford morgan, her hot neighbor and superintendent, but also a sweet and overall just adorable painter. i’ve already said this countless of times on this blog, but talia hibbert is a talented writer. i highly recommend her books. (content warning: on-page sex, mentions of past toxic relationships.)
• The Worst Best Man, by mia sosa: a woman who has been dumped on her own wedding day has to work with her ex-fiancé’s brother in order to get a job in this beautifully addicting story about two people who grow and fall in love. this story is so fun and cute (with a sprinkle of sexy times), though it does not shy away from calling out social issues like the struggles of Black women in today’s world.
• Meet Cute Club, by jack harbon: this very cute novella brings two men together as they get to know and fall in love with each other through a romance (!!) book club. this book brought me so much joy and it was just overall happiness wrapped in a book. i liked it a lot. (content warning: on-page sex, toxic father.)
• The Right Swipe, by alisha rai: months after a one-night stand that ended in samson ghosting rhi, the two meet again, and fall in love while working on businesses. i think it’s a well-known fact on this blog that alisha rai is a favorite author of mine. i love her books, and this one is no exception. i cared deeply for these characters, and wanted to protect them at all costs. and while this may be a cute story, it has some deep issues discussed in it. (content warning: sexual harrassment, workplace harrassment, talk of past toxic relationship, death of loved ones, grief, on-page sex, defamation.)

• Forbidden (Old West #1), by beverly jenkins: listen, i talk about this book every other day but it really is one of my favorites of all time. this story starts when a man rescues this woman from death. and it’s! so! good! i was beaming by the end of the book. please! read! it! (content warning: racism, non-black person saying the n-word, shooting of a Black person.)
• The Luckiest Lady in London (The London Trilogy #1), by sherry thomas: in this book, a women, desperate to marry someone in order to support her sisters, finds herself accepting this man’s proposal, even though she despises him. and though this book isn’t an absolute favorite of mine, i read it when i was getting into adult historical romance, and i liked it!
• The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Feminine Pursuits #1), by olivia waite: whether you’re new to the genre or a life-long reader of romance, i believe you should read this book about soft women falling in love while doing scientific research and beating patriarchy in the scientific field. (content warning: sexism, misogyny, talk of past toxic relationship and emotional abuse, on-page sex, mention of death.)
• The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke #1), by tessa dare: this story about a marriage of convenience is literally the first adult historical romance i have read, and i loved it! it was just so fun and helped me not think about finals (which were pretty stressful). i haven’t read a lot of the author’s works, but i could definitely see from the ones i’ve read that her writing is neat and easy to follow. so maybe check out some of her other stories too!

and theeere you go! of course, these are the ones, i believe, to be the most accessible to baby romance readers (or that i enjoyed when i was a baby romance reader). i also have a little guide if you want to start reading romance if you want to check that out too. there are still so many other romance books i want to read but like,,, where is the time!!
